The Granite YMCA ‘Empowered Futures’ Development Program Celebrates Nine Graduates Who Will Now Enter the Childcare Workforce

At a time when the childcare crisis is at the forefront of concerns statewide, The Granite YMCA’s Empowered Futures Program continues to make inroads on the childcare shortage by developing the next generation of early childhood education and youth development professionals. With the guidance and partnership of the ReGen Tech Valley Hub, funding from Economic Development Administration, New Hampshire Community Colleges, Community Action Program of Hillsboro and Rockingham, and dedicated YMCA staff, The Granite YMCA celebrated the graduation of their latest cohort of nine students who have recently completed the Empowered Futures Childcare Workforce Development Apprenticeship Program. Eight of the graduates have secured jobs in the following positions: School Age Childcare Group Leader, Associate Teacher, and Teacher's Assistant.

"This program is working! Through coursework, training and career-sharing opportunities, our graduates are closer to realizing their dreams of working within the childcare field and as an added benefit to the state of New Hampshire, we continue to make a positive impact on the childcare crisis," said Michele Sheppard, CEO of The Granite YMCA. "The success of this program depends upon partnerships with local organizations who understand and support the long-term impact we are having with Empowered Futures, and we are extremely grateful to everyone who has joined us and in doing so has made this part of their mission, too," explained Sheppard.
