PRACTICE & DEVELOP NEW SKILLS AT THE Y

Pickleball is a dynamic paddle sport that combines the best elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, creating an exciting and easy-to-learn game. Played with solid paddles and a perforated plastic ball similar to a wiffle ball, it takes place on a smaller court with a low net, making it fast-paced but approachable for all skill levels.

One of the reasons Pickleball has become such a hit is its accessibility. The shorter court size and lightweight equipment make it easy on the joints, allowing players of all ages to jump right in and enjoy the fun without feeling intimidated. Whether you’re looking for a friendly match with family or a more competitive doubles game with friends, Pickleball offers the perfect balance of strategy, exercise, and social connection.

Beyond the game itself, Pickleball is known for its vibrant and welcoming community. Many players say it’s as much about the people as it is about the sport. From local tournaments and recreation centers to casual backyard setups, there’s always an opportunity to pick up a paddle, meet new people, and join the fun.

All of our programs and activities incorporate the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Get Ready to Play

Pickleball is currently one of the fastest-growing sports! It’s easy to learn, the rules are simple, and it offers a perfect mix of fun, fitness, and friendly competition.

The five basic rules of pickleball are:

  1. Serving must be underhand from the baseline, diagonally crosscourt, and the serve cannot land in the no-volley zone (known as the kitchen)
  2. The serving player/team must let the serve bounce
  3. The ball must stay in bounds during play and bounce no more than once per side
  4. Players cannot hit the ball in the air when in the kitchen
  5. Games are played to 11, win by two. Points are only scored by the serving player/team

Whether you’re picking up a paddle for the first time or returning for another match, pickleball is an inclusive sport that promotes teamwork, coordination, and plenty of laughter. With some practice, you’ll be ready to rally and enjoy the game that’s bringing communities together. We’re happy to help you get started, and we hope to see you on the courts at The Granite YMCA!

Playing pickleball at the Y is a great way to be social and make new friends! It’s also a game that’s fun and easy to learn for players of all abilities and ages. Gather some friends to play singles or doubles, or meet new players during our drop-in pickleball hours.

Drop-in hours normally run 2–2.5 hours. Pickleball drop-in hours are currently offered at the YMCA of Downtown Manchester, YMCA Allard Center of Goffstown, and YMCA of Concord. Drop-in hours are FREE to all members of The Granite YMCA. Stay tuned for additional locations and hours!

On specified occasions, we offer Introduction to Pickleball classes for ages 15+. This is a seven-week class available for Y members and non-members. It’s a perfect opportunity to learn the basics, improve your skills, and gain confidence on the court in a supportive, community-focused setting.

With a few quick lessons, participants can go from learning how to serve and rally to understanding game strategy, positioning, and court etiquette. Each week builds on the last, helping players develop stronger coordination, quicker reflexes, and a better feel for the game’s rhythm. The small group setting fosters interaction, making it easy to connect with like-minded individuals who share your enthusiasm for staying active and having fun. By the end of the program, players not only gain the confidence to join drop-in games but also become part of a welcoming community that makes pickleball such a hit at the Y.
