2018 Annual Swimming Spectacular
The long anticipated 2018 Annual Synchronized Swimming Spectacular will be held at the YMCA of Downtown Manchester, 30 Mechanic Street. The event kicks off at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 14.
Synchronized swimming is a combination of dance, gymnastics and swimming. Synchro athletes will perform acrobatic routines in the water, perfectly timed with music and their teammates - all while never touching the bottom of the pool. The show will combine these elements into one beautiful spectacle of grace and power.
The show is free and open to the public. Street parking is available and the Brady Sullivan parking garage located on Plaza Drive offers free parking for up to two hours. Parking must be validated at the YMCA Welcome Center.
“Synchro is such a unique sport, and it’s nice having an event like the swimming spectacular in the area,” said Coach Beth Spalding. “The magnitude of what the girls put in is amazing. The costumes and the show activities encompass a variety of skills and a balance of technique you don’t see in other sports. It’s very exciting to watch their hard work come together and their skills pay off.”
In addition to the show, there will be a bake sale and 50/50 raffle in the lobby of the YMCA from 8:30 am – 12:30 pm. All proceeds raised will go to support the swim team.
The Granite YMCA Catalina’s is a competitive synchronized swimming team out of the YMCA of Downtown Manchester. The sport is a wholesome combination of speed swimming, running, dance, and gymnastics. Swimmers learn about different types of music and how to count it, effective and safe stretching techniques, healthy cardio and endurance training. Coaches also teach swimmers about health and nutrition for positive body image. The Catalina team is comprised of several competitive divisions. Younger and older girls work together sharing and mentoring important aspects of the sport.
